That certainly solves some of my issues - I was hoping you would say that. The next query I have is regarding William B Ludlam's wife, Hannah who was born in Horton Le Spring, Durham, in 1840. I am a member of Ancestry but can't find her anywhere else except in the 1861 and 1871 census. I would love to know more about her parents. Are you able to find anything?  :D

I can't find a marriage of William to Hannah!

But then, none of the trees on Ancestry have her surname either! ;D

I have an old record that says her surname is Dawson - not sure where it came from though. This just might be my brick wall.  :-\

Houghton le Spring will be the place of birth for Hannah.    Have you looked at Durhamrecordsonline?
You may have to get a birth certificate for one of her children to be sure of her maiden name.  You have the references from KG's earlier post.

The 1841 census shows a Dawson family in Newbottle, Houghton le Spring
Thomas  45  coalminer
Elizabeth 45
Elizabeth 20
Edward 15  coalminer
Mary 5
Hannah 5 months  all born in county

As the 1841 does not show relationships it is possible that Hannah is a child of Elizabeth.    Ages above 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 too.   All guesswork until you are sure she was a Dawson though.

In 1851 the elder Elizabeth is a widow and has a grand daughter Hannah with her but age 7.   Still in Newbottle and there is a further grandchild, Thomas age 2.    It may be worth looking further at this but Hannah is shown as born in Chester le Street.

Marriage - Houghton le Spring Jan/Mar/Apr 1860 10a 379   Hannah Dawson to William "Seedlam".   What is the betting that has been mistranscribed?

Solved the age difference as the first Hannah died in May 1843 age 2 and is buried in Houghton le Spring.  See Durhamrecordsonline.  She was daughter of Elizabeth, no father mentioned.
