I never got the marriage certificate as I have to go to Dublin and manually get the certificate, not available on line as it was a civil marriage and not a catholic one.

The gravestone is of Augusta Carroll, it's hers alright!!!

Civil registration of ALL marriages in Ireland was complete by 1864. You don't have to go to Dublin for the marriage certificate- you can get a 4 Euro one from Roscommon.

Once you have the details on the certificate we might be able to make a bit more headway in finding out about the families of John & Augusta.

Are there any stories in the family of how a young German girl ended up marrying in the west of Ireland?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

As I understand it John and Augusta both worked at the Stacpoole estate.

Might try that so.

Augusta worked as a maid at Newhall house, John worked with the horses.

I'll try find a link for the house.

There were plenty of Germans working in lehinch during that time in hotels. There were also a number of German watch makers in the Clare area too.
