Hi Karen,

I have 10 children for William & Martha of which five died young as follows:

All baptised & buried at St Matthews, Stretford.

Samuel Mellor baptised 13th Nov 1796
John Mellor baptised 4th Nov 1798
Thomas Mellor baptised 26th Oct 1800
Joseph Mellor baptised 5th June 1803 - Buried 1st Jan 1814.
Martha Mellor baptised 9th Feb 1806 - Buried 24th March 1816?
Francis Mellor baptised 7th May 1809 - Buried 29th May 1812. (Cause of Death: Measles)
Hannah Mellor baptised 16th June 1811 - Buried 29th April 1812. (Cause of Death: Weakness)
William Mellor baptised 14th Nov 1813 - Buried 14th June 1814.
Nathan Mellor baptised 3rd December 1815
William Mellor baptised 15th August 1819

Within the LancsOPC record for Martha's burial it is noted that Martha's parents were not identified. However, I suspect that that this is the above Martha as no other Martha was born at around that time.

I am not aware of any children of William's second marriage to Ann Fox.

The above is also as far as I have gone at present as regards William & Martha's children.

My 4x gt grandparents John & Hannah Mellor (Nee' Bancroft) had 8 children as follows:

All once again baptised at St Matthews, Stretford.

Jane Mellor baptised 4th Sept 1808. Died 1854. Unmarried.
Thomas Mellor baptised 25th Nov 1810. Died 1854. Married Elizabeth Dean in 1831. (My 3x gt grandparents.
James Mellor baptised 6th June 1813.
George Mellor baptised 28th April 1816. Died 1903. Married Mary Ann ?
Elizabeth Mellor baptised 22nd Aug 1819. Died by 1822?
Mary Mellor baptised 22nd Aug 1819.
Elizabeth Mellor baptised 24th Nov 1822.
William Mellor baptised 26th Dec 1824.

Hope this all helps. If you would like any other info, please feel free to ask.

Kind regards

David

Hi David

I am researching my own tree and notice that John and Hannah are my ancestors too.  Do you have any further information on them?  My 3rd great grandfather is George, who married Mary Anne Pratt, and you list them as being in Stretford, which is precisely aligned with my research to date.

It would be great to go further if you might have information that could help.

best Regards
Bob

Hi Bob,

A very warm welcome to RootsChat!

Its great to hear from you. As far as I can tell (If I have the right George!) George Mellor b1816 married Ann Holt on 17th Feb 1839 at Manchester Cathedral.

Their children were:

William Mellor b1839
Mary Mellor b1841
John Mellor b1844
David Mellor b1847
Samuel Mellor b1849   Married Amy ? (Maiden surname unknown)
Elizabeth Mellor b1850
A Male Mellor b1853 & d1853.
George Mellor b1854/55.

Mother's maiden surname from the GRO index is HOLT. Although she marries as Ann she appears as Mary Ann on all the censuses.

Ann's father is given as David Holt a labourer, whom she names a son after. George's father is given as John a labourer & both are of Stretford. George is shown as a Carter. On censuses George is always shown as either an Ag Lab or a Farm Labourer. On the George Mellor marriage to Mary Ann Pratt, that George is shown as a Warehouseman.

If your George Mellor did marry Mary Ann Pratt, when was this George Born? George Mellor born in 1816 to John & Elizabeth Mellor (Nee' Bancroft) is the only George Mellor that I am aware of apart from George's son George of course.

You say your ancestors are John & Hannah, Who? I don't have a John & Hannah. I have John & Elizabeth Mellor & John's parents Thomas & Hannah Mellor, are they who you mean?

Hope this helps & if I can help more, feel free to ask.

Kind regards

David
