I've replied  :) I'm new to this so get a bit confused  ??? . I did start to look for my Grandfather a few years ago on Warsailors.com. The nearest thing I got was a Karl Arvid (or maybe just Arvid Johansson) on a Panamanian ship which left on a convoy from the Gareloch around 1944-45 and collided with another ship on it's journey. Although my Grandfather was Swedish I'm sure he joined the Norwegian Navy as Sweden were a neutral and not involved (though I would double check that!) and some ships were "borrowed" from other Countries.  My Dad said his father left when he was around 3 and he was born in August 42.  I did keep the details so I shall have a wee look for them when I can.

Hi Ian

Thank you that is very kind. Sadly, I don't have that much information which would aid you in your search. Most of it can be found in this email trail. I believe he was a merchant seaman during the war. My mind may be deceiving me but I did cast eyes on Karl and Jeans MC and think his mothers name may be Astrid.

Many thanks in advance.

Scott

I suppose a date of birth would be a good start. Do you know it.

I have to go through some of my Dad's stuff tomorrow so I'll have a look. If I can't find it I shall request the information from the local Registrar Office.  They showed me details of the marriage last week but I never took much notice of the dates.

Ok great.
Let's hope there is enough to dig deeper here in Sweden.

I received an Extract of their Marriage Certificate today. It doesn't have Karl Arvid Johansson's d.o.b but has his age of 24, they were married on 9th Feb 1942 so he must've been born the year 1918. He was a Seaman with the Merchant Service and was engaged in War Service. His Father was Edvin Johansson who's profession was a Woodman and was deceased. His Mother was Astrid Johansson now Haug who's maiden name was Jonsson. Karl's and Jean's witnesses on their Wedding day was Gunna Moller (engaged in War Service) and Janet Moller of 34 Hopetoun Place Glasgow. When looking a few years ago I found info on his Mother and her Parish was BO and the District was Örebro Län in the period 1896 though I can't quite remember how I found this and I've failed to find it again in recent searches. Hope this can be of some help  :) xx
