Elizabeth Rowlands ( B 1809 , Tywyn)
« on: Thursday 13 February 14 07:16 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone knows anything about this lady. I can only find her in the 1851 and 1861 censuses. She seems to have had two sons with rather unusual names, Jonas Francis ( b 1851) and Griffith Kelly ( b 1835), both possibly illegitimate . In 1861 she is living with another Elizabeth Rowlands (A widow,  b 1813 , Tywyn) . I must admit I cannot find any other trace of her.

I think this starts to tie it up. There is a marriage for an Elizabeth Richards to a John Rowlands in Tywyn in tne 1850s. John Rowlands might have been my widowed gg-grandfather.

I notice you've referenced FREEREG. According to the index, there are unbroken records on the site from virtually the 17th century, but as far as I can tell, the early part of the 19th and th latter part of the 18th is missing.

Hi,

I just stumbled upon this as I'm completing my tree and Griffith is my ggg Grandfather. The last I have for Elizabeth is the 1891 census when she was living at an address in Frankwell Street which crops up quite often throughout the family. Griffith changed his name to Griffith Rowlands at some stage, Cant find a thing about Waldron though.

Yes - a lot of my distant relatives lived at Frankwell Street at some time or another, some quite recently. I've not recorded Elizabeth (Rowlands ? Richards ?) on my family tree, but something tells me there was some connection between her and my family. Do you happen to know who her parents were, and whether she did marry John Rowlands (1797 - 1859), and who the other Elizabeth Rowlands was ?

From what I can gather the other Elizabeth Rowlands was her cousin according to the census where they were living together, If it is your relative John she married then it was in 1953 and her dad would have been Humphrey Richards, but i've got a bit more digging to do before I know for sure.
As for Waldron, ive just found this on him;
Waldron Kelly Circa 1783 - 1836)
He was an army man and while serving in the Peninsular War, eloped with and married in April 1813, Anne Ludovia de Aguilar of Portugal, by whom he had five children. Descendants are living in Spain, South America and other parts of the world.
He married (deserted her Ana, no divorce) a second time in 1831, Jane Owens in Liverpool, England, and had a further three children.
In 1834, while living with his family in Dolgelly, North Wales, he had an illegitimate son, Griffith by Elizabeth Rowland who was forcing Waldron Kelly to accept paternity.
Probably to get away from this situation, he was appointed to Barrack Master at Lucea and Montego Bay, on 16th May 1834; where he died in 1836.
