Smith and James of Nannerch
« on: Thursday 13 February 14 14:12 GMT (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters,
I have a problem.
I have evidence that places my ancestor Edward Smith in Flintshire.
His father's name was Thomas.
I presumed that the line woulld stop here because Smith is too common a name however I am intrigued because I have now found on familysearch a record that has a Thomas Smith marrying someone called 'Sidney James' at Nannerch on 13 November 1737.

The year is good for 'my' Thomas but I want to find out if the wife's details are correct or a mistranscription.  The reason is that my Edward Smith gave all of children the middle name 'Sidney'.
Is this a connection?  I wonder. . . ???
Is anyone able to assist?

If this is correct I would like to know the names of their children.

Bye for now

Hi,
I have found that Sidney/Sydney as a female name was widely used in the North Wales area.

The details of the marriage you found are correct.

I have a copy of the BT & PR that I can send you if you require it.

'Sidney James' was a Widow at her marriage.

I think from what I can see there are a few children including a Edward, born to this couple being baptised in Bangor Is-Coed, Flintshire.
The licence bond and allegation survive for this marriage, which shows Thomas Smith is from Bangor parish, it also mentions John Smith, who could possibly be his father.

Edward Smith, son of Thomas is baptised 1st December 1742, Bangor on Dee.
Hope this helps, if you need the copies PM me with an email address.
Colin.
