Stretching it a bit but is " Curate at Nairn Scotland" someone mishearing "Curate at Westmorland"?

Thank you for the replies.

I don't know about being a Reverend in Westmorland but can not find a memorial on northofthesands website which has the Memorials of people in Westmorland.

Their first  child is called Maria Eliza Richardson b1832 France Paris. The enumerator got it wrong in 1851
They also had another child born in France - Laura c1835 she died 1850.
c1840 they were in Ireland then in June 1841 for the census they were back in England in Cheshire.

Just a thought I wonder if he was in the Army? Were we in France in the 1830's? My knowledge of history doesn't extend to that. But I think we were in Ireland in the mid 1800's.

Does any one have any ideas about whether he could be curate at St. Mary's?

I am very grateful for any input.

I think it would be worth looking at the FindMyPast burial. It may give some extra  details.

Hi, the parish register entry states The Reverend William Richardson aged 54 years at St Mary's.  the Register is signed by Joseph Gate and it does not state whether he is a Curate or Vicar Etc.  I must admit I do not know if the title 'The Reverend'  means 'full vicar' or curate. However there will be someone on Roots Chat who will know.
Regards

Now that I think of it I don't know what 'The Reverend' means either.

There are two Newspaper notices of death:-

Liverpool Mercury 1 July 1851 and Carlisle Journal 11 July 1851
June 27 at Claughton Birkenhead aged 54 Rev William Richardson June 27th of Consumption

Guess what I am down to my last 5 credits on FindMyPast - gets you very little!!!

Seems like it is used as a term of respect.

Thank you for the reply.

I have looked at Jospeh Gate and his place of birth is Maryport Cumberland. So I presume that Wm is not a curate there.

However there is a Theology College and school under that entry and Wm Richardson had said he was a School Master in the 1841 Census so will look again at the 1841 census.

Have all the info on his death now from the internet. But of course FindMyPast is from the Bishops Transcripts so wondering if there is anything else on the Parish Records.

Has anyone any access to these Parish Records that they can look for me please. It is the death of Wm Richardson St. Mary's Birkenhead. 30 June 1851

Thank you

Judy
