The Muttock Family.
« on: Wednesday 19 February 14 14:52 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me please. I am busy researching my family tree on the Muttock family. They originate from Redlingfield/Eye area of Suffolk. I am looking for the parents of William Muttock (born 1814 in Redlingfield) & married to an Ami Marguram? Also any siblings of Williams. Thank you.

The 1841 census shows Ami as Alice but here's the marriage and surname is Mattock

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NL9X-RTG

And her baptism

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J3JB-374

Also - somebody called jennygray has notified an amendment to the 1841 entry saying the surname is Mattock.  They are transcribed as Maddock in 1841 but the enumerator should have been shot at dawn for such awful handwriting ;D

William  25 agric labourer
Alice 25
William    6
Rachael    4
Sophia  4 Days

Here's another variation - birth & death of baby Sophia

Birth
Sophia Murdock September qtr 1841  Hartismere    13    401

Death

Sophia Muddock June qtr 1842  Hartismere    13 299

It seems that prior to ca.1830 the family are recorded in Redlingfield as Maddock.

Familysearch shows:

William Maddock bp.7/5/1813 Redlingfield, son of Goss and Elizabeth
also
William Maddock bp.4/7/1814    ditto                      ditto

A few other children born to this couple including a Goss bp.4/8/1805 as Maddock, who was buried 16/5/1856 Redlingfield as Muttock.

I don't know whether Goss and Elizabeth did have 2 William's in succession - can't find a burial for the William born 1813 so possibly one a birthdate and the other baptism date.   Either way, the parents are the same.

Goss Muddock married Elizabeth Meen 2/8/1802 Redlingfield.

I think Annette7 & CaroleW have certainly hit upon some corruptions of the name

I have found
19 Sep 1764 Goss MUDDOCK married Anne LOCK Thorndon All Saints
12 Oct 1779 Goss MUDDOCK married Sarah GARDINER Redlingfield St Andrew
2 Aug 1802 Goss MUDDOCK (widower) married Elizabeth MEEN Redlingfield St Andrew
2 Aug 1802 Thomas MUDDOCK married Sarah READ Redlingfield St Andrew

This could be your couple
William MATTOCK married Amy MARGERUM 26 July 1835 Cransford
Looks like he probably had a brother/cousin who also married a Margerum
Goss MUTTOCK (abode Redlingfield) married Mahala MARGERUM 29 July 1828 Cransford
A Mahala MUDDOCK (45) was buried in Redlingfield 14 Jul 1852

There are lots of MUDDOCK burials recorded in Redlingfield (SuffolK Burial Index) inc:
Sarah MUDDOCK (63) buried 2 Sep 1801
Goss MUDDOCK (83) buried 3 Jan 1823

Could the names be a corruption of MURDOCK? - there are loads of Murdock burials in nearby Eye.  Inc a Gosnold Murdock in 1795 & way back in 1684 a Mary daughter of Gosse Murdock.  Murdock/Muttock???

Hope something here helps
K

Hello, here's hoping that someone might be able to help me. I am struggling to find the parents of Goss Muddock (Muttock) born 1740-1823 in the Redlingfield area of Suffolk. Also any siblings of his. He was married to Elizabeth Meen. Thank you.

Hi, my dad is a Muttock from redlingfield. His mother was Ethel & father Reginald. Dad is 80 now still living in the area. He has a brother tony. His grandparents are buried in the churchyard there along with his father whom passed when dad was just 4years old. Their are muttocks in eye also, not sure of connection. I think confusion with name is the way it is spoken,   Hope this may help in some way.
