Thank you!

Now, IF I'm using familysearch correctly the next generation up should be:

Daniel's (1728) parents were Edmund and Elizabeth Robinson, married 14 October 1725 in Carlisle, Northumberland, England and they had 4 children:

John (c 15 Feb 1738, Dufton)
Lydia (c 01 Feb 1729, Dufton)
Samuel (c 13 Oct 1726, Dufton)
Daniel (c 02 Jun 1728, Dufton)

Hoping I got that right =)

The only reason I question it is the marriage in Carlisle which is over 2 hours away from Kendal (by today's travel standards)

Actually some of that does look wrong based on a genealogy search (versus record search) on familysearch...

When I pair Edmund and Elizabeth, I get this for their children:

children:
Daniel /Ellwood/,
Edward /Ellwood/,
John /Ellwood/,
William /Ellwood/,
Richard /Ellwood/

I'm thinking due to the diverse number of Ellwoods, the gene. search is going to be most accurate.

Gillian, can you let me know if I'm wrong or off base here?

I did double check my tree using the gene. search where my own paper records end and so far everything looks spot on.

Thanks, I'm really excited to be getting this far back but don't wan't to get so caught up that I'm committing incorrect info to my lineage.

Thanks =)

Well... I think I've brought this to it's fullest extent...

Apparently I go alllllll the way back to Edward and Ellyn Ellwood back in the 1540's which after Googling around brought me to a few discussions here (many by you Gillian)

Based on what I've read online, this is as far back as one can expect to get back in English history:

Has anyone broken this barrier in their Elwood / Ellwood research?

Hi
Just a slight correction
Carlisle is in Cumberland not Northumberland
Dufton is a small township on the outskirts of Appleby which is about half
way between Kendal and Carlisle but would still have taken a good days travel
on horse

Hi

Yes you are correct and you link up into Bruce Morrison's Ellwood resaerch which goes back to Edward & Ellyn of Dufton. I too any many others who have Ellwoods from this neck of the woods link into the Dufton tree.

Edward & Ellyn are as far back as the parish registers go. There are Ellwoods in Penrith at the same time but no link has been found with the Dufton lot.

Gillian

It's funny you should mention Bruce Morrison as I've come across his name and website URL countless times but his website is gone:

http://community-2.webtv.net/BBmorrison/EllwoodGenealogy/

Not even archive.org's wayback machine has a copy of it...

Do you have a copy of his Ellwood works that were on that website by chance?

Hi

I see what you mean! Bruce's site is no longer available!

Last year I had noticed that his email address had been removed from the site and that his old email address was not working either! It makes you wonder if he is no longer with us.

I did make some copies of his site. I will see if I can find them. What do you need exactly?

Gillian,

Not sure, I was just interested to see what was there.

While I now have my lineage back to 1545, I don't really have much in the way about what my Ellwoods did in their lives

Hi
Just hot of the press
Thomas Ellwood [Carpenter] had a hand in two deeds for property
in Scattergate (Sub district of Appleby)
date 1737 and 1743
sorry it does not go back but it will put some flesh on an Ellwood
regards
