Yes, George was a widower & a shoemaker on the marriage cert to Catherine.  His first wife Margaret died 2nd quarter of 1847 and he married Catherine in Oct same year.  I think it is same person because of his occupation.
I agree, he could have married Margaret anywhere in the country.  I have searched some time ago, but didn't come up with anything conclusive.

Yes, the occupation and his general location seem to suggest he was possibly the same one, even if not the one married to Margaret Brown.
