After much searching and help from Rootschat Canada members I have found that James died in an accident at Calderhead Colliery near Shotts Lanarkshire in 1943. Jemima Gage Cowan is mentioned as his wife and she remarried in Shotts in 1945 to David Rintoul Brown.

Hi James Baillie and Jemima Gage Cowan adopted a child in 1930ish ,
as far as I know the child was born in Canada but the adoption took place in Scotland .
The child was my father .
