In the Victorian Government Gazette, 24th February 1888, an Insolvency Notice for Edward Slavin, grazier of Fairbanks near Woodside in Victoria.  A meeting was set down at the Insolvency Court Office in Sale for 7th March 1888.

SLADEN-On the 18th instant, at Bannister's Creek, near Grabben Gullen, EDWARD SLADEN, aged   86 years. A native of the city of Dublin, and a resident of the district for 65 years.

Arson at Crookwell.

At the Crookwell Police Court on Monday, before Mr. Gunn, John Coves, Gurrandah, was brought up on a charge of wilfully setting fire on the night of the 3rd February to a shed containing a spring cart, the property of Edward Slaven. It transpired in evidence that the defendant had a spite against Mrs. Slaven, and had stated that he would like to see her roasting in a fire. He was committed to take his trial at the next court of Quarter Sessions, to be holden at Goulburn on March 17. Coves was also committed on a second charge of setting fire to a shed containing a spring-cart, harness, and a quantity of wheat.
