Obituary Help!
« on: Wednesday 05 March 14 13:34 GMT (UK) »
My ancestors are buried in St. Canice's R C graveyard in Limavady, Co. Derry, Ireland.  I have found a flat stone grave buried within the surround of my family's grave.  I am totally baffled as to who he is and is he related my family?  Here is the details on his headstone;

Gloria in excelisus Deo.  IHS.  Of your charity, pray for the soul of Rev James Duffy, Pastor of Alloa, Scotland, whose remains are interred here, died 22 November, 1865, aged 50 years.

I would like to obtain his obituary and hopefully find why he is buried long side my ancestors.

Thank you.

Scottish Catholic Archives might have some info on the chap, unfortunately not online though. Records for the Diocese of Dunkeld 1559-1996 can be consulted by appointment at Columba House, Edinburgh. Perhaps an email enquiry to them? Or you could try an email to  the Diocese Office, which is based in Dundee:  http://www.rcdod.org.uk/index.php/contact-details .

I spent my childhood in Alloa and district and was baptized in St John Vianney's, Alva.  I have connections with a Duffy family, my grandfather being born in Derry.  Some of his siblings were born in Limavady.  Father Duffy's father was Edward, an name used regularly in my family. (But there were lots of Duffys and Edwards in Ireland!!).  I have checked Scotland's People website and have saved the Death registry entry for fr Duffy.  The entry confirms the information above.  I plan to create a tree on Ancestry.co.uk and undertake further research.
