where buried? John Wallace d. 1942 Govan
« on: Friday 07 March 14 00:15 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone.
I am trying another angle regarding John Wallace.
I know for sure he died March 1942 in Govan.
What I don't know is where he is buried.
The last place of residence was Graham Street, Govan.
Can anyone help?
Thanks so much

Could be the Southern Necropolis Lorraine, a couple of sites worth trying,

The two main cemeteries for the area are
1) Craigton - (also the site of the crematorium) - in Berryknowes Road
2) Cardonald

although there are others nearby including the Southern Necropolis - If he was RC he might have gone elsewhere to a purely RC cemetery

Just as an aside - Graham Street Govan was renamed Garmouth Street sometime in the 1920's/30's

Thank you!
I will do a bit of searching in all the spots you both mentioned!

Hello everyone!
I have managed to find out that John Wallace owned a lair at Craigton. His first wife, and second wife and daughter are all listed as buried there .... but he is NOT!!

Would anyone be able to check out if there is a headstone at this cemetery ?  His is Lair Q362.

I have checked Lambhill and Cardonald but he's not listed there either ... argh!!

Any help is more than welcome!

Regards

Most likely cremated! He's unlikely to be buried in a different cemetery.

Wouldn't his remains have been buried with the rest of his family? Especially as he owned a lair?

Lorraine, there is a charge for putting ashes in a grave but sensible folks just scatter them on the grave themselves, doubtless there will be a bylaw to prevent this but, tough!  ;D

What years did those who are in the lair die?
