Evans-Bagillt.
« on: Thursday 13 March 14 22:20 GMT (UK) »
My Greatx2-Grandparents were an Isaac Evans and an "Ellinor" Jones who married at Holywell St James in 1936.Whilst I have info for the Isaac Evans,it is the "Ellinor" Jones that I'm unsure about.

I have their eldest son as a John Evans born in Bagillt in 1838.John is not with Isaac and "Ellinor" in 1841.As far as the 1851 census entry it is almost unreadable,"Ellinor" is given as Oleandt on Ancestry!I've been unable to find an entry for any of the family in 1861.

In 1871 what could be John and his mother are living in Gadlys Lane Bagillt.RG10/5641/121/37.John is given as a Bricklayer and single.

Again in Gadlys Lane Bagillt in 1881 are living a John Evans and his mother who is given as an "Ellen" Williams. The John Evans this time is given as an Engine Driver.RG11/5503/97/36.

Of course I'm uncertain now as to whether the two John Evans' are the same! However If they are the same,I will be looking for a marriage of his mother to a Williams?

Regards
William Russell Jones.

Before my computer does a restart..............

There's a marriage for an Ellin Evans in  Chester Mar q, 1878. A david Williams is on same page.

Added - back now! - The two census entries do look like the same family. I also found a David Williams' death Chester Dec q, 1878. He was 77.

You might also look at this family in Bagillt in 1871 - RG10/5641/95/30
A better match for age at death.
Not there in 1881!

Just as a possible alternative,if John followed his father as a collier and was married by 1861,there is John and Catherine Evans at Turnpike Road,Holywell(Bagillt district) at

RG09   4269  74  24

Although he is given as b. 1836 here,he stays in the area at Walwen,Whelston(?) in future censuses, and is b. 1841 at one point.

Roger

Hi WR

Just trying to get into this again

Have I got  the same Isaac and Ellen as you on the 1841:

HO107/1413/1/31/20
Bagillt

Isaac Evans, 25, collier
Ellen, 25
Elizabeth, 5 weeks

Was John possibly  with the Jones grandparents in 1841 - HO107/1413/6/31/17

I see that they had quite a few offspring by 1851 - have you traced them all?

Possible burial for Isaac in Bagillt, 1860, aged 50:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KC5V-8QD
GRO - Sept q, 1860, Holywell, 11b 185

The 1871 and 1881 pair do look the same but can't find any other marriage. Maybe she took up with a Williams but never married him or the enumerator made a mistake in his book - it did happen when he was copying from the household schedules.
