Mary Ann Campbell b 1855 Nigg Kincardine

I would dearly love to find out what happened to my grandfather’s sister, Mary Ann Campbell. She was born in Nigg, Kincardine on the 24th of March 1855. She appears in the 1861 Census living aged 6 with her parents, William and Elizabeth Campbell(nee Reid) in North Loirston, Nigg and in the 1871 Census working aged 16 as a housemaid at Balnagarth, Banchory Devenick, Kincardine, the home of the Smith family. Sadly I have not been able to locate her in later Scottish Censuses or to find a marriage or death record for her in Scotland. I suppose she could have emigrated somewhere or gone to live in England, although none of her siblings have done so.  Can anyone help me find her?

Isn't Nigg in Aberdeen?  If so, she may well have returned there for any marriage

SP has 2 Mary Ann Campbell marriages in Aberdeen between 1871-1881,  2 in Aberdeen City (don't know whether it's the same 2) and not in Kincardine

My response to your queries
1) Yes Nigg is in Aberdeen now but it was not in 1855 and years later
2) Yes I have viewed the two marriages involving a Mary Ann Campbell in Aberdeen City before, but sadly neither involve my Mary Ann Campbell

Mmm - Ancestry show it in Aberdeen - When you show Nigg as birthplace location - the drop down selection list shows Nigg, Aberdeen which is what alerted me.  There is no option to select Kincardine

So I then Googled "Where is Nigg" and got this

Nigg is an area of Aberdeen, Scotland, south of the River Dee.

Genuki says it is "about 1 mile S. of Aberdeen" so is it one of these "border" places that could be in either county?

I noticed that - but SP and Genuki have it as Kincardine and when I lived/worked in Aberdeen, it was in Kincardine (ie - I didn't collect birth info from Nigg    ) Neither of the two marriages you found are her, if her mother was a Reid.

A tricky one as there are no deaths showing on SP either and no obvious marriages in England.

For places in Scotland before the various local govt reforms - use Genuki or SP

Can I ask if one of those marriages is to an Alexander Forbes? Long shot but on 1901 census there's a Mary A Forbes -  birth year given as 1854 -born Nigg -second son called William.
