Hi Bill
Dont know where you are located but if you could get a look at the church microfilm for John's baptism, nine times out of ten in Ireland children were given their second christian name at baptism which would not have been recorded on his birth cert

Hello again. I had looked but unfortunately John was not listedon:
Catholic Church Parish of Borris. Baptisms and Marriages 1782-1880, FHL British Film #926107.

Family search only has the birth dates.

The family may have been too poor to pay for the baptism.

Bill

Just found out that Ancestry has put some of the Carlow RC records (images) on, but not the ones I am interested in Here is an extract on it:

The Carlow parishes are
For Births and marriages: Ballon and Rathoe, Rathvilly, Tinryland and Tullow
For Burials and Deaths : Rathvilly and tinryland
for Confirmations (yes) Ballon and Rathoe and Rathvilly.

Hopefully they will put the rest on soon.
