James Williamson weaver in Kier
« on: Saturday 22 March 14 10:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone

I am looking for a needle in a haystack at the moment.

I have a marriage registration for James Williamson, grocer and Eupheme Stewart on which is stated that James was the son of the late James Williamson, weaver in Kier, in the Parish of Auchterderran. I was wondering if anyone who had access to burial records for Kier would be kind enough to look them up and see if there is a burial for him prior to 14 January 1821 (the date of the marriage). If there is I would love to know what information is recorded and also if it mentions his wife's name.  The only information I have on James Williamson the weaver is what is on his son's marriage registration.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi ,

Scotlandspeople has a marriage 16th Jan. 1821 James Williamson / Eupheme Stewart , Kirkcaldy Fife.

There is an Auchterderran in Fife , wondering if this Keir is in Fife rather than Dumfries ?

Although there is the Parish of Keir in Dumfries.

Hi ev

it definitely says 'of Kier in the parish of Auchterderran' on the banns entry (Kirkcaldy).  I can't see it on the old 6 ins OS maps so far but there is a Keir's brae:

Wonder if it's there.

The map link puts it very close to the A92, between Kirkcaldy and Cardenden

Did you ever find out anything about James Williamson of Kier? How close is it to Auchterderran? His son James lived there presumbably because last 5 children born there up until 1793. At some point after 1781 James junior became a grocer and left weaving behind.

Hi Janet Mc,

Good to hear from you. I have no further news on the Williamson family other than to say I have been round and round in circles on Scotlands People looking for them as well as the Smails/Smeals family at various times when I am sick of chasing my Italian families.

Have you had any luck with them?
