Whereabouts is she in 1881 please?

I can see an Elizabeth Geoghegan in Kensington Workhouse * in 1871 but her birthplace is Ireland and she is 21.

Name is quite distinctive so I wonder if she didn't actually come from Guernsey especially if no record of her birth there.

* just caught sight of the name underneath another Geoghegan.  Transcribed as Mart Wm 5 months born in Kensington workhouse  :(
It's Matthew William.

milliepede,
thank you for searching but what I wanted to know was how to find someone on Guernsey when there is no record of that person when on all of their documents it states that that's where they were born, all I can think of is that my great grandmother lied to hide something up.

Sorry I don't have the answer to that  :(

Just for info where is your Elizabeth in 1881 please?  You said traced her back to 1881 and the birth of her daughter 1877.

Using a different tack is there a record of her father I wonder?  We have his name John.  Does he appear in Guernsey on a census perhaps - will have a look.

Most of the entries with that surname do seem to be Irish.

Probably a red herring but there's a John Hewitt G with wife Susannah in Middlesex in 1851.  His birthplace says "in the army" which isn't very helpful but he could have had children in different areas (clutching at straws now!)

Can't see one in Guernsey.  Really do have to wonder if she was born there despite her thinking she was.

Thank you that helps  :)

So she claims to be a widow in 1881 but maybe that was just for appearances seeing as she had a young daughter.  Can't find the entry on either site so all credit to whoever found it!

There is a William Geoghegan/Elizabeth Kenny marriage but that's in W.Derby 1875.
Her father is Jacobi.  I don't think that's anything to do with this case.  It's all Irish to me.

Found it  ;D

Surname spelt with an r Groghegan.

And I looked up Guernsey parishes and there is one called St Sampson which is what appears to be written in 1881.

St Sampson has one of the oldest parish churches so they must have records, she could be hiding in those.
