Youghal Close, Shrivenham
« on: Friday 28 March 14 11:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi all. Hope someone can help me. My Great Great Grandfather Martin Daley married a Salome Smith in 1855 in Paddington London, Her family had the old Bricklayers Arms on Longcott Green. Now Martin had come over from Ireland, more specifically Youghal in Ireland. My question is what is the reason for the naming of Youghal Close in Shrivenham? Is it a coincidence or a much closer connection?

Thank you for the reply Youngtug, I have already emailed them. I was njust tryingto cover many bases so to speak.
BTW I see one of the names you are researching is Cox. My mum was a Cox born in Swindon, her father's family were all froom round East Leach etc along with her mum's family  Monk.

Right, Shrivenham Heritage centre have emailed me back saying the road was named after a small field the road was built on.
Now I need to find out who owned the land. Any one know where I can find that info?
Cheers

Hi Martin,
I think I may have been lucky finding your post about Youghal. I am sat here with my Mother and 2 sisters reading your post and can't believe that you mentioned Martin John Daley and Salome Smith. Martin was also my Great Great Grandfather.
We have been researching our family history for years now, spent time in London in Stepney, Bow, Poplar, etc. and have never managed to make contact with a living relative that we knew/hoped was out there somewhere.
I hope you are still picking up messages and it would be great to hear back from you.
I guess we are cousins and just so you know, my Mother is still alive at 84 and I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters with many children and grandchildren amongst us. The Daley family continues in Gosport Hampshire, Great Missenden, Bucks and Cheltenham.
For me I now live in Poland having remarried to a Polish girl. I think we are the only Daley's in Poland!
It would be great to hear from you, hopefully soon
Best regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin. What a surprise. That was an old post I put in the forum.
Which branch of the family do you descend from? I also have been researching for many years and have built up quite a tree. Are you on Ancestry? I am in contact with a few descendants from Martin and Salome two of which were Daley but married.
