o'connor & Brosnan - Knockbrack
« on: Wednesday 02 April 14 12:55 BST (UK) »
Hello,

A little stuck on one side of the tree. Any help would be most greatful.

Mary Bridget O'Connor - Born 7 Nov 1929 Knockbrack, Tralee, Kerry, Ireland, married Michael Freeman in 1952 Croyden and died 2003 in Kent.

Her parents as stated on Birth certificate were Michael O'Connor & Margaret Brosnan who from a marriage index were married about Aug 1925 in Tralee, Kerry, Ireland.

These are the only details we have so far on Michael & Margaret. Our guess would be married in Knockbrack as per their daughters certificate, but that's about it.

Please help.

Just for reference purposes till you get their marriage cert
This might be her mother
1911 Census 25 Knockbrack
Madgie (Margaret)Brosnan age 14 should be 17 (age 7 at 54 Knockbrack in 1901) with parents Patrick and Margaret
Irish Genealogy shows her birth for 21 nov 1893 baptised at Knocknagoshel to Patrick Brosnan and Margaret Collins and agrees with the list of children shown on the census.
Their marriage does not seem to be listed on Irish Genealogy however the only marriage i could find on the civil index is
Patrick Brosnahan and Margaret Collins ,Jan Mar 1889, Newcastle, vol 5 page 473.(Newcastle District covers part of Tralee and Listowel)

Its been a while but we now have more information after a visit to Knockbrack Knocknagoshel, Kerry. Indeed Michael O'Connor and his wife Margaret were know as the "Danes" O'Connors. We have seen there old house and where Margaret Brosnan was born too.

any information on the Dane O'Connors would be most appreciated.

Michael O'Connor married Margaret Brosnan 30th June 1925 in Knocknagoshel. Michael was a cattle farmer in Knockbrack. He left Knockbrack and came to England in the 1970s after his wife died in the late 50s and he was the only one left there as his children had moved to England and America. Michael we think died in the 1990s and was born in Knockbrack 18 feb 1904. His parents were Denis O'Connor and Catherine Breen. The census we found states that Denis was staying at Edmund O'Connor's, but we do not know any more about Denis or his siblings or parents etc.

Margaret Brosnan was born 6 Nov 1896 and her parents were Florence Brosnan or Brosnahan & Johanna Foley.

Any help would be most appreciated.
