They married June 1/4 1913 in Wharfedale district, and had children born in 1914, 1916 and 1923 also at Wharfdale.

Aha ;D Not that I am progressed any......BUT Wharfedale I found is in Nth Yorkshire or Tyne and Wear or Houghton Le Spring or Bristol. Apparently none in OZ ???

There is a George Whitby Child birth registered June 1889 Nottingham? (Freebmd)
Is this him? Do you have this certificate?

George's Australian death certificate will give details of his parents if known by the informant. Do you have this d/c?
I have only had a quick look so far at the censuses, to see if I can find George with his family. He should appear in 1891, 1901 and 1911, but I can't easily see a George Child born in 1889 Nottinghamshire in any census, but I have not looked thoroughly. Have you found any trace of George before he went to Australia?
