Your dad was a first cousin of my mother Evelyn (McPhee) Beattie and the same for Kenneth George McPhee who died in 2008 in his 98th year.  We are 2nd cousins!

My son Kevin and I are driving to Chicago tomorrow via Hwy 94, so we'll be going thru Kalamazoo, just south of you.

Cheers,
Brian

You'll find lots of photos and scans of birth/death/marriage certificates, etc on my ancestry.com tree.  There's even a photo of William Gilmour, our 3rd great grandfather, and obviously who your grandfather was named after.
So you were born in '51 as well?

Brian on ancestry I see you have John McPhee and Mary Whitehill listed on the Tree.  Have you tried to go any further back?  When I tried to go back using fathers I received several different spellings which is not unusual and ended with Dugald McPhee 1550 Colonsay.  What are your thoughts?  I like the documents and pictures you have been able to put together.

Jon, I've hit a brick wall finding any more about Hector.  I'd love to see how you traced back to Dugald in 1550...is this on your ancestry.com?  I've communicated with a Renfrewshire Historical Society person for a long time and she can't definitively go any further than I have. Our family of 4 was in Scotland in August and walked along Walkinshaw St where Hector's and Mary's familiies lived, Hector on the west side and Mary on the east side of the short street.
The McPhee's certainly came from Colonsay but I haven't seen how.
I couldn't find you on ancestry.com under the username rmcp51, but found a R_McP...is that you?  Please send any further correspondence to bbeattie@uoguelph.ca
