Yes Peel based. John mcmurdock married and settled in belfast. Described as a mariner. Is that another name for sailors ..? He married Elizabeth Chapman Killough co down (fishing village) in 1876 when he was 27.

mariner in older Manx records generally indicated a sailor who spent most of time at sea with no fixed abode  on Island - a fisherman in Manx terms until late 19th Cent was generally an inshore fisherman who followed the herring during the season (april/may to Sept) but rest of time ran a croft or had labouring jobs - read history of Herring fishery in Irish Sea - with the development of larger boats and development of other fisheries then fishing became a full time job in the late 19th C

John was the second child in family with that name - his elder sibling born 1839 died 1844

In 1864 John McMurdoch was based in Castle Street Peel (known as Big Street in earlier records) and occupied a house, yard + garden owned by a James Higgins (who lived next door)

a John McMurdo (one of many renditions of name) is noted as supplying 4000 nails for rebuilding of Peel grammar school in 1782 - probably the same John McMurdo who along with John Corrin a carpenter witnessed a marriage in Castletown in 1780 - in 1782 a John McMurdoch is noted in will of Thomas Berkley as husb of Ann Harper (see summaries on www.manxnotebook.com - malew wills
