I knew I had seen this surname in research before ...all in Liverpool in 1780`s to 1808...then the family disappeared ...I wonder it they went to Durham ??
check out www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html
bullerwell
all events
this is the first record ...there are 3 more baptisms for the same couple and also the marriage of this first girl Isabella - all in Liverpool ...I presume these are pre your Australian emigrants ?

Baptism: 15 Sep 1788 St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Isabella Bullerwell - Daughter of John Bullerwell & Isabella
    Born: 6 May 1788
    Abode: Simpson street
    Occupation: Ship wright

as a Shipwright - John might easily have moved to Durham at a later date....or even Australia perhaps

With six states and two territories it is difficult to say if any of those listed on Australian state BDM's is related to your family. However there are several families in the Durham area census of 1851 and a tight family group of BULLERWELL in the Newcastle Hunter area of NSW Australia. Both of which could have been involved in Coal mining.

Some dates and names would be helpfull, but if you dont have those could you post the name of the last known NON LIVING relative you know of and we can take the search back from there.

Welcome to Rootschat ;)

Welcome to RootsChat.
In the 1881 Census there were 95 people called Bullerwell, 52 in County Durham, 33 in Northumberland, 6 in Middlesex, and 4 in Glamorgan.

Hey Lisa
I'm an Australian Bullerwell.
My family moved from Chesire in the 60s. My grandfather was born in Northumberland in 1921. There are only a few Bullerwells in Australia and I believe I'm related to all of them. Not sure what time frame you were looking for.
