I think henry may have been a long term patient at Union mills hospital.
Can you see records?
Can you see death cert without having to purchase a copy from civil registrars.
Any info on the hospital

Ballamona hospital at the Strang (near Union Mills) - was the old "Lunatic Asylum" see www.manxnotebook.com/gazateer/bmona.htm - patient records fall under the 100 years rule
No you need buy a cert

Death Cert - only exist post 1877 (before this burial only - for these look at www.imuseum.im) - otherwise you have to buy one via civil registry - look up Registries on www.gov.im (remember IoM is not part of UK and thus records held on Island)
re hospital records - would come under social services - older records would be depostited at IoM Public Records office but that is personal visit only (by appointment) and I understand that inmate records are not easy to gain access to but I've personally not tried just reporting what another academic researcher told me - they were researching medical treatment - no photos only personal notes allowed.
ETA unless his family arranged burial the hospital buried in their own area in Braddan New Yard (again look up www.manxnotebook.com)
+ 2nd suggestion - associated with Ballamona (shared same committee in charge + also kitchens etc) was Braddan poorhouse - later called Braddan infirmary + later name I've forgotten - this was a place for old age infirm (+ also for births of illegitimate children ) again its address was the Strang (about half a mile from Union Mills) being just across the road from Ballamona (the perimeter walls still exist in part but it was demolished before Ballamona)

Thank you so much for all the information.
We hope to go to Iom soon and am trying to get as much info as possible before we go.
My husbands both great grandfathers came from Iom and his great grandmother was baptised in Ballaugh  .
All then married and settled in Northern Ireland.
Henry Faragher returned to Iom and it is him that we think died in asylum.

The 2 great grandfathers Faragher and Mcmurdock appear to have been sailors.

Catherine Chapman married Henry Faragher in Belfast (although she was baptised in Iom her parents married in downpatrick co down Northern Ireland )

Faragher connection was from German Peel.

So once again thanks for taking time to answer my questions.

We live in Northern Ireland if you ever need any info here I will endeavour to be of assistance .
