Boars Castle Llangarron
« on: Thursday 08 May 14 13:46 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Anyone know where Boars Castle in the Llangarron area was?  I have William Spencer dwelling there in a number of 1800's census records.

Cheers

Hugh

There are a number of references online of people asking about the exact location of Boar(s) Castle in Llangarron. Here is one:

I would contact the local library or village society, who may know more. Bear in mind place names change - it may still be there under a different name; or it may be that the place no longer exists.

Either way, don't let the name fool you, many people were (are) pretentious when naming their houses; all those lodges, manors and courts are anything but! I have ancestors who lived in a "hall" which was actually a 17th century-built cottage where my ancestors dwelled with their 12 children... Good luck!

Shropshire: MOUND (Hope Bagot)
Worcestershire: PARKER (Kempsey)

Thanks Cimbrio,

I had seen that curiofox message and been in touch as we were both looking at the same family there.

I went to Hereford Archives but they could not find it either on the old maps they had there.

I will keep looking though.

Cheers

Hugh
