Jakob Koch/Jacob Cox emmigrated to AU from Germany b/t 1848 and 1861

Wondering if anyone can help me out.....

According to his son's birth certificate my ancestor Jacob Cox was born in Frankfurt, Germany  approx. 1825 - 1830 and sometime after Oct 1848 migrated to Australia. According to the same certificate he married in Oct 1848 in a Roman Catholic Church in Frankfurt, Germany to a Katherine Plant? No issue. Sometime after he left Germany with or without Katherine. In 1861 he married Mary A Hanrahan in West Maitland. I can't find anything on when he left Germany nor his parentage. As Cox is generally not a German sounding name I did a bit of digging and supposedly the surname Koch can sometimes be converted to Cox in an English speaking country. This mystery is made just a little bit harder as Jacob was a farmer and illiterate....so many spelling errors and differences in ages in the birth and death certificates I have obtained.

Does anyone have access to German records..

There is a KOCH, Jacob age 23 and wife Catherine age 22 on ship Beulah 4th April 1849 http://www.rootschat.com/links/0zc3/
Record states occupation as Vine Dresser and both can read & write.

SMH 5 Apr1949 "The Beulah has made a fair passage of one hundred and nine days from the Downs. Catherine, wife of Jacob Kochs, a German farmer near Maitland, was killed last week by the upsetting of her husband's dray, on which she was riding. The husband had a narrow escape.

Thankyou all so much....you've helped me immensely. The pieces are now fitting into together so nicely.

I had absolutely no idea that I had German heritage and neither did my father. We just assumed that because the surname was Cox and they were strict Roman Catholics that they had to be from Ireland. Pays to keeps an open mind!

I'm currently putting together some of this history for a descendant of Jacob (1), Thomas (2), and Thomas Gregory (3).
