Lentaigne family in Ireland
« on: Wednesday 21 May 14 12:25 BST (UK) »
I have been researching the Lentaigne family in Ireland for a few years now and am particularly interested in collecting information relating to John 1803-1806, specifically in relation to his working life as he was a civil servant.
Lentaigne, Mathews, Roche, O'Loughlin, Hyland, Brennan, O'Neill, Magan, Corcoran

Hello Anne,

A great big welcome to RootsChat.

What information do you already know about John Lentaigne. Do you know where he was a civil servant (or where he was living at the time)?

Trystan

Yes he was knighted at the end of his life. I do know quite a bit about his personal life, wife, children , homes etc but I would like to know more about his working life as firstly, Inspector of Prisons and then on the board of Education and lastly Inspector of Industrial schools. I do know he stood for Parliament in 1852 as a Liberal candidate but was not successful. I am really looking for any anecdotes, personal attitudes towards the man etc so as to build up a picture of the type of person he was. (Some of the stuff on the internet is not strictly accurate)

Could this be him on a Famine relief commission http://www.nationalarchives.ie/search-the-archives/

The link doesn't quite work but if you do a search there you'll get it.

I can't see the images on ipad but I'm pretty sure he's here with reference to a prisoner escape (James Stephens)and the famine commission.
