George Metcalf, born c. 1846
« on: Wednesday 28 May 14 15:08 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for birth info on George Metcalf. He was born, I believe, around 1846 (1851 census info gives age of 5) to John Jonathan and Charlotte (nee Gower). I can't find an entry in the BMD index at all.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Alex

Looks like a couple to choose from, on FreeBMD?

That's brilliant JJ, thanks for your help! Maybe you could teach me how to use LttP - I'm really confused by it - I've just tried searching for this info and I couldn't even find something I know you've found there!

I apologise, I thought it was compulsory from 1837?

I had seen the Glandford Brigg entries but felt them unlikely as the rest of the family stayed very local to Boston. But thank you anyway

Father's occ - Labourer.

Now here's something interesting ...

Marriage at Fishtoft 18 May 1864 (yes 1864)
John Jonathan METCALF (son of Thomas) to Charlotte WAKEFIELD (dau of Roland)

There seems to be a baptism for Charlotte in 1830, so she may have been rather young in 1846. ;)

 :D
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

You will need to register to gain access to the site.
Then click on 'advanced search'
On the first line type 'fishtoft baptism 1846'
You will then see Baptisms 1813 -1869
Click on the image and then jump to page 33
George's baptism is on the right-hand page at the top.

From 1837, the onus was on the registrar to collect the details! A lot depended on how thorough he was at his job!! ;D
That changed in 1874, when it became compulsory for the parents to register a birth
