... and Marion Currie(1856-1945) and this is where I get stuck. They married 17/2/1885 and had 9 children however I am at a stand still with Marions parents. I think they were John Currie and Catherine MacIntyre and she may have been married before to another John Currie.
Jackie :)

What were the names given for Marion on her marriage and death registrations? Were there any differences? Have you tried to find Marion's birth on Scotlands People? Census entries for her - either before or after marriage?

Anne Marie that would be helpful, also just anything else that could confirm what I already have.
Just wondering if you are same person from Facebook ??

Sorry Jackie,

Only noticed this entry tonight after Monica posted on your new post...........yes that's me  ;)

Have you not put an enquiry on https://www.facebook.com/groups/UibhistSUAS/ about your G G/father Alexander  ???

I'm sure you will get some response........I take it you are JS  ???

Anne Marie

ADDED........Not sure if you have seen this MI but I would be surprised if this wasn't a relation buried in Hallan at Daliburgh   ???

That might add to your confusion though  ;D

Hi again and thanks for reply.
I have Marion and Donald Ewen marriage certificate which gives her parents as john Currie and Catherine Macintyre (17/02/1885)..
however the only birth cert I can find gives father as Alexander.
very puzzled.

many thanks Anne Marie
confused is certainly what I am, tracing Uist relatives is proving to be a big task but one which I find fascinating.
The Donald Ewen from the grave stone would be to young but could very well be a relative somewhere along the line.
Thanks again for your valuable input.
Jackie.

my grandmother was born in Dailiburgh lochboisdale her name was Margaret MacDonald
Her parents were Alexander (Alistair) MacDonald and Marion McKay.
Jackie :)

Hi Jackie,

When was Margaret/Jessie/Seonaid  b, where & what were the names of parents, date & place of marriage  ???

I'm confused with the various names as none of the 3 are on a par with each other  ???

Do you have the marriage cert. for Alexander & Marion  ???

When & where were they married, what were their ages & where were each living at time of marriage  ???

What are the details for both Alexander & Marion's parents  ???

A lot of questions but having a bit of knowledge on Uist, names are very much the same where couples with the same names can marry so a bit more investigation is needed  ;D

Have you checked census records too  ???

I did notice the marriage for D E MacDonald was Protestant but his wife Marion Currie was from South Lochboisdale, a predominantly Catholic area  :-\

Anne Marie

(P.S) Feel free to PM me on FB  ;D

Jackie, you are in best hands for the area with Anne Marie  :)

Just a couple of things from me....

The Birth Cert you posted for Marion Currie above can't be the right one from what you have mentioned. Likely you need to be working from this entry here (image on SP) https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYPV-F4C

Some other siblings here:

Mary 1862 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYPV-ZXN...likely she died...
Mary 1865 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYPV-ZXK

Nothing showing I think pre 1855 and the start of official registration.

Possible 1861 census - everyone born in South Uist:

John Currie 35 constable
Catherine Currie 35
Donald Currie 9 crofter's son *
Isabella Currie 7
Marion Currie 5
Address: So Lochboisdale Currie's, Boisdales, South Uist

* You likely need to view original census image on SP to confirm John Currie's occupation as a 'crofter' rather than 'constable'.

1871:

John Currie 63  Crofter Of Acres
Catherine Currie 43
Marrion Currie 14
Mary Currie 6
Address: 12 South Lochboisdale, Boisdales, South Uist

Hi Jackie,

This is a link to Blue Sten who does look-ups for North Uist Crofts.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=196782.0

I searched all the N/Uist census & although there were Donald Ewen MacDonald's there & in S/Uist, I can't get any to fit his age/yr of birth.

The 1891 census (after his marriage) states he was b S/Uist but I can't find a birth for him which, going by his marriage would have been 1858/9  ???

Hi anne marie
i will try and put in order what i have.
Margaret (jessie) MacDonald b 06/03/1925  d 29/07/1989. Born dailibrugh , parents were.
Alexander MacDonald b1896 and Marion mackay b 1891  d 06/01/1956.  I cant find a birth certificate or marriage for Alexander but believe they married in 1923 at oban. They also had a son called Donald but have no details on this .Alexander's parents were Donald ewen MacDonald b1859 ?d 09/01/1904 and Marion Currie b 1856 -1945 together they had 9 kids.
Peggy 1885
John 15/03/1888
Donald1890-1/6/1969
donald john 9/11/1891 ?
catherine (kate) 1893
ALEXANDER 1896
malcolm1898
annie flora 22/12/1898
mary flora 17/10/1900

From what i gather marion curries parents were john currie1800-1892 and catherine macintyre
Donald ewens parents were Donald Macdonald1825-1909 and maragret macleod 1824-1892.
Donald (1825) parents were donald macdonald 1788 and flora maclean1788-1877.
Donald (1825) parents were malcolm macdonald and christian ? macvicor?.
Flora maclean (1788-1877) parents were donald macleann and margaret macdonald.

The currie line is confusing as i have two lots of information from diffrent sources but un sure of what is corresct.

I know this is confusing but thanks for the help
