Hi anne marie
i will try and put in order what i have.
Margaret (jessie) MacDonald b 06/03/1925  d 29/07/1989. Born dailibrugh , parents were.
Alexander MacDonald b1896 and Marion mackay b 1891  d 06/01/1956. I cant find a birth certificate or marriage for Alexander but believe they married in 1923 at oban. They also had a son called Donald but have no details on this .Alexander's parents were Donald ewen MacDonald b1859 ?d 09/01/1904 and Marion Currie b 1856 -1945 together they had 9 kids.
Peggy 1885
John 15/03/1888
Donald1890-1/6/1969
donald john 9/11/1891 ?
catherine (kate) 1893
ALEXANDER 1896
malcolm1898
annie flora 22/12/1898
mary flora 17/10/1900

From what i gather marion curries parents were john currie1800-1892 and catherine macintyre
Donald ewens parents were Donald Macdonald1825-1909 and maragret macleod 1824-1892.
Donald (1825) parents were donald macdonald 1788 and flora maclean1788-1877.
Donald (1825) parents were malcolm macdonald and christian ? macvicor?.
Flora maclean (1788-1877) parents were donald macleann and margaret macdonald.

The currie line is confusing as i have two lots of information from diffrent sources but un sure of what is corresct.

I know this is confusing but thanks for the help

Hi Jackie,

Unfortunately my "prescription"  ;D for Ancestry has run out & not renewing it until there's an offer on.

I have the marriage cert. for Alexander MacDonald & Morag MacKay

Married 28 Aug 1923 at Office of Sheriff Clerk Depute, County Buildings, Oban, Kilmore & Kilbride, Argyll.

Marriage was irregular by Warrant of Sheriff Substitute of Argyll

Witnesses;
Alexander MacInnes (Labourer), 17 Airds Crescent, Oban
Mrs Catherine Carmichael, 6 Combie Street, Oban

I have a suspicion that Donald Ewan MacDonald may have been born under a different surname so will have to do some more delving as there is definitely no birth for him by the name Donald Ewan MacDonald for his supposed yr of birth nor on South Uist where he says in 1891 he was born  ???
As his birth was after 1855 it would have had to have been recorded by law but by what name & where, is the  ???

EDIT......& my apologies (was looking at my old South Uist Tree but have updated it correctly to the new 1) I had to keep the 2 because a lot of the info. I haven't transferred :-[

John Currie (2nd husband) & Catherine MacIntyre had 2 kids;

Mary c 1862 d c 1864
Mary c 1865

As Mary was named following the death of the previous by the look of things, it leaves me with a big  ???  ???

Neither John Currie nor Catherine MacIntyre's mother's were named Mary so the Sottish naming pattern was definitely not in use but.............John Currie's 1st wife was named Mary MacIntyre

Marion's father was John Currie husband no. 1 of Catherine MacIntyre  ::)

Jackie,

I have just noticed...............

You have a Son for Donald Ewan & Marion Currie named Donald b c 1890........

I believe he was actually named Donald Ewan too  :-\

This death I gave you before 24 Sep 2007 (b c 1934);
http://www.hallancemeterysouthuist.co.uk/view-grave.php?num=663

could be the son of the above Donald Ewan b 1890 but I don't have info. this much up-to-date so I can't be sure although as I mentioned previously, I would be very surprised if there wasn't a connection there.
You would need to get the marriage cert. for Donald MacDonald & Mary MacMillan who were the parents of Donald Ewan MacDonald who died 2007

Anne Marie

ADDED.......Donald Ewan who died 2007, died at Milton, S/Uist which is basically next door (area) to Daliburgh, S/Uist where your Donald Ewan & family were  ;)
The distance is about 3 miles, Daliburgh, Askernish & then Milton

Jackie,

I will do the 1st marriage of John Currie (husband no.2 of Catherine MacIntyre) another day rather than completely lose you as his 1st wife also had the surname MacIntyre but all his children are half siblings to the 2 children (both Mary's) with Catherine although only step siblings to Marion & her siblings with John (1)

It has occurred to me that I know of this family and the Currie half of it contains a trap. if you track Marion b. 1856, who married Donald Ewen MacDonald and settled at Glebe Cottage, Daliburgh, before her marriage you will find her at 468 Lochboisdale in the household of a married couple John Currie [Iain Ruadh mac Eoghainn] 1810-1892 and Catherine MacIntyre 1827-88. However, it was asecond marriage for both of them. John had already had Donald, Ewen, Marion  b. 1842 who married Sam MacKenzie, Roderick and Margaret with his first wife. John and Catherine went on to have two children together, Mary 1862-4 and Mary 1865. However, Catherine had already had children with her first husband, confusingly also John Currie, in the Isle of Eriskay just off the South Uist coast. They were John 1851, Donald 1852, Isabella 1854, Marion 1856 who married Donald Ewen and Mary 1859-60.

That may possibly explain why they are difficult to trace but that Marion's was a Protestant marriage also suggests that someone, possibly Donald Ewen's father, the farm manager Donald MacDonald, was a resident of North Uist or even the mainland.

That makes no difference to the bardic descent. Just Google Niall or Cathal MacMhuirich or simply the surname. In 1800, Lachlan Mor MacMhuirich claimed to be 18th in descent from Muireadhach, the first of the family to move to Scotland in about 1213.

Hi Jackie,

This is a list of SP Index of births for Donald Ewen (I left surname blank) for Inverness (County) with dates around his possible birth date......& taking advantage of 25 per index with a wider search.

A look at some of these may unravel the truth  ???
