John Cottier - Isle of Man
« on: Thursday 05 June 14 14:24 BST (UK) »
John II (1762-1849) was married to Catherine Callow (1802-1887). His father John was married to Catherine Lace (I think). I'm trying to find older family genealogy. I am actually going to the Isle of Man this month to see what I can find. Any one have any info?

There is a Cottier family Isle of Man website - I presume there will be a contact page ?..good luck ..

" Under A.D. 1098, we find in the Chronicon Manniae, that "A battle was fought between the Manxmen at Santwat, and those of the North obtained the victory" - a quote from the site ...I presume the Vikings raided the Isle of Man ??....haven`t read it - just glanced ,but it looks a good interesting website

There is a well sourced tree on Anc**, that gives details of further generations and pictures.

John Cottier born 1742. Died 2nd March 1823
Catherine Lace born 28th October 1740. Died 12th March 1830
Both died Bride Isle of Man, photo of their headstone in Bride cemetery.

They were married 7th August 1773 Bride Isle of Man

The Cottier line is that of BallaCottier (in Ballavaranaugh treen) - Wm Cottier in 1643 - Ballacottier is near coast southeast of Bride Parish church - you can trace back earlier (parish reg exists from 1694) using land records (lib vas, lib assed )  etc

The Cath Cottier als Callow is d/o Wm Callow + Cath Kelly (m 1787 orig Braddan but most of large family in Maughold from 1793 -  the Callow name is mostly associated with Maughold - see deed NSS Oct 1827 25 in which Wm + Cath sell some land to son in law John Cottier)
any thing with a Manx Connection
