Patrick Ryan b1839 Killonan, Limerick, Ireland
« on: Saturday 07 June 14 19:34 BST (UK) »
Patrick is my GGGrandfather and I would like to try and find Patricks Birth/Baptism and any history of his Parents.

All I new about Patrick was based on the 1881 UK Cenus and as he died in 1890 in Salford, Lancashire
there was not much to go on, son Stephen was born in Canada 1863 and daughter Elizabeth in East India
1874,
But thanks to Rootschats Canada forum and  Armed Forces forum, I now have his marriage in Ontario, Canada. and his enlistment in the 1st Battalion 17th Foot regiment in Ireland 1857. Plus Stephens Baptism
in 1863

ENLISTMENT Ireland
Patrick Ryan, 1 Battalion 17th Foot regiment, born Killonan, Limerick circa August 1839. Attested 1857.  Served in North America roughly 1859-1866,  India 1871-1878. Discharged on return to UK in January 1879.  Was in Quebec in 1859.

MARRIAGE St PatrickS in Quebec City. Canada 17 Nov  1863

Patrick Ryan, born Killonan, Limerick August 1839.
Parents Edmund Ryan and Johanna Ryan of County Limerick.

Bridget Flannery b1835 in Clare, Ireland,
parents, Daniel Flannery and Louise Gledson of County Clare,

STEPHEN BAPSISM St PatrickS in Quebec City. Canada
born 26 Dec 1863 and baptized on the 28th

Thank you
Geoff Ryan

You're very lucky to have the information thus far.  :D You may not know that most of Ireland's early censuses were destroyed and little remains from the era you need that might point you in the right direction.
Someone has listed these Limerick Ryans from the 1821 census. Your ancestor Edmund is likely on there, but you may never know which one is the correct one as there are many who are the correct age....it appears to be a popular forename. Don't see anything for Killonan altho one Ryan family is listed in Killmurrey but with no son Edmond

 ;D adding:
Hey. just noticed that the person who compiled this list was looking for an Edmund/Edmond Ryan

without exact dates, any or none of these could be an ancestor
tithe applotment books Killonan, Kilmurry, Limerick undated,
Ryan   Edmond, a Dan'l also listed on page..a Denis & a Mary

tithe applotment books for Killonan Bruree Limerick 1827-1834 also has
Danl Ryan    Edmd Ryan   Denis Ryan   Mary Ryan

Some wills, one does have a Johanna beneficiary, but that is also a common name, and hae may have only died Limerick as her address is elsewhere... Plus no ages given here, you'd need to search for more
