Harry Moore Belgium
« on: Sunday 08 June 14 05:15 BST (UK) »
Harry Moore and family had business interest in Belgium from about 1900. Harry's son married Alma Dupre and had two children - a son and a daughter.  Seeking any information.  Harry died in Ghent in about 1960.

The family came originally from Halifax. The business was called Harry Moore and Sons and provided loom parts. He was in his 90's when he died. His son Raymond remained in Belgium and raised his family there. Raymond was born in about 1895.
Harry's wife remained in England for the most part. Fred Moore was born in 1897 and lived in Ghent from the late 20's. His son Eric was born there in 1930 and attended school in Ghent and died in Australia in 2005. The family were evacuated during the Second World War.

Welcome to Rootschat.
If you have any more information about Harry, for example, age when he died or where he comes from, then it would be a good idea to post it. This will give us a better start in finding the right Harry for you.

I've taken out the names of the grandchildren of Harry as it seems possible they are still living (if their grandad died in 1960).

"Guent" is presumably Ghent/Gent.

https://familysearch.org has some Antwerp police records which cover various foreigners who were in Antwerp up to 1930.

There is a "Harry Moore", b. 1859 in Ipswich, in 1892 when he arrived he was a widower. His wife was Edna Lovina (on freebmd Lorina) nee Burton - they married in 1885 and she appears to have died in 1891 as "Edna Lorina Moore".  This man was an engineer, and was in Antwerp only briefly (June/July 1892), but of course might have later returned or gone to another location.

The birth, marriage and death date and place of Raymond Moore and Alma Maria Dupre are on Geneanet, the owner of the tree is a distant relative of Alma.  ‘dont know  whether she has more information but you can email her.  Raymond’s marriage cert  could give you more information about his parents.  Since the marriage was more than 100 years ago (when the date and place are correct) it should be possible to apply for this cert.  (in Belgium we have a 100-year privacy law, except when you are a direct descendent or when you have a permission from the court of first instance). The birth,  marriage and death certs for Ghent are online up to 1910, partly on the Belgian State Archives website (register first) and partly on FamilySearch (both free).

http://en.geneanet.org/search/?name=moore&place=gent&ressource=arbre    (third tree)

cemeteries of Ghent and his boroughs  :   http://begraafplaatsen.gent.be.

in the box below  ‘Naam’ (= name)  :  Moore,  then click on “Selecteer alles” (= select all), then click on “Toepassen” (= apply) or the enter key
There are three ‘Moore’-results, click on one of the “Moore” results to see the burial plot.  Alma Maria Dupre is buried on the same plot as Regina Moore (probably their daughter) .

In an online E-thesis about mechanical engineering there’s some (a little) information about your Harry Moore his company in Ghent , is this relevant for you?
