Hi

The parish records for Milton Abbas are in very poor condition, and difficult to read.

The death of John VACHER in 1656, looks to be a child ( son of George ( is he the son of John ?) and Elizabeth ).

There is a burial of a John Vacher 12 Jan 1694, the year after Dorothy.

There is a marriage in Poole in 1623 of a John VATER. This register is also in very poor condition and the brides name cannot be made out.

The protestation records of 1641 for Milton Abbas are transcribed online, on there there is a John VATYER snr and John Vatyer jnr. Wonder if this could be him, if so he was still alive then.

When I thought that my family was descended from the Vachers, I did a lot of analysis on dates and name variants. I concluded that the Vayters were definitely the Vachers and this alternative spelling only lasted for about forty years or so before reverting to Vacher.

If I recall, the Weyitts go back to the late 1500s in Weymouth!

Good hunting.
Thomas, Davies, Jones, Walters, Daniel in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. That should narrow it down a bit!
Vincent: Fressingfield, Suffolk, Stockton & Sunderland.
Murtha/Murtaugh: Dundalk & Sunderland
Ingram: Cairnie by Huntly, Scotland then Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Bardouleau: London - in memory of my stepmother Annie Rose née Bardouleau who put up with a lot from me.

I don't suppose anyone can find the alleged marriage for John and dorothy?
Brunton, Binnington, in Cullercoats
Paterson, Anderson in Fifeshire
Vacher, Vatchers, Vatyers, (other various spellings) , in Dorsetshire
Marchams, in Oxfordshire / Berkshire (depending on date)

Hi,
If this is of any help -
Dorset OPC lists in Milton Abbas Marriages 1559-1812

Thomas WELLS son of John Vacher & Dorothy (of Wareham) WEYITT daughter of John Weyitt of Mordon married 01-Jul 1655

which is not a record of John Vacher and Dorothy Weyitt but does link the names!

maz   who also needs help on a Vacher ancestor, but not on this thread  :)

Hi,
Having seen a few other posts, I though this may be the case.  Thanks for the clarification, particularly as I'm looking into the Vacher family in general and the George Vacher/Elizabeth Painter family myself - hopefully the lovely person at Milton Abbas can sort it all out.
Thank you!    cheers    maz
