Culleton/Cullatin - Monaghan
« on: Friday 20 June 14 10:22 BST (UK) »
Hi

trying to find out about a Michael Cullatin born in co.monaghan about 1858/1859, not sure where but possible clones/carrickmacross?

Michael joined the RIC in 1882 (recommended by a McDermott, possibly an inspector), his first station was in roscommon, then moved to Donegal where he got married and then to Antrim where he died in 1894.

Any help appreciated.

Regards

... then moved to Donegal where he got married ...

Regards

What is his father's forename and occupation from the marriage record?

Edited to add:  The RootsIreland website index brings back an 1888 marriage in Co. Donegal of Michael Cullatin to Mary Murphy, his father is Patrick Cullatin, is this him?

The RootsIreland website search index brings back two Co. Monaghan church baptisms for a Michael Cullaton to input parents' forenames Patrick and Mary, both 1858, pay to view.

Hi Maura

That is very interesting and also a bit freaky, as i have spent the last couple of days looking into this Cullatin line and had just put down the laptop before seeing your message last night.... would be keen to get in touch as this is very promising and potentially we are related :) - i have traced my Cullatin to Corcreeagh, so i assume it is the right family.

My Michael, signed on in Carrickmacross and then was moved to Roscommon, before Donegal and then Antrim.. he also had a family member serving in Co.Cavan and he may have been called James and may have served in Wexford. i know nothing other than Michael had family serving in Co.Cavan.

Where are you based? i am in Donegal and stopped once on my way back from Dublin in the chapel in Corcreeagh and met a man living beside the graveyard who was a Culleton (cant remember his first name) but he was very helpful and showed me all the Culleton graves in the graveyard. I had intended to try and get up again last weekend but ended up in Belfast instead. - email address removed by moderator, please use the private message function should you wish to exchange private information
