As you mentioned Llanfechain and Lanfyllin and Llanfechain are only about 4 miles apart I looked through the Parish of Llanfechain Baptisms 1813 - 1863:
The only John Davies baptisms around 1850 listed are:

2  May 1852 to John and Eliza at the Talbot Inn, Victuler - siblings at that address - none
23Aug 1846 to David and Mary at Gwen-y-Glyn - siblings at that address: Elizabeth (1843) Mary (1840), David and Sarah to same names at other addresses in 1836 and 1833.

Jonathan
Hughes - Llangedwyn, Llanfechain, Llanrhaiadr, Llansilin
Roberts - Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire
Davis - Caterham, Surrey
Mitchell - Windygates, Fife
Hayes - Radcliffe
Edwards - Llanyblodwell
