Paternity Index now spreading to Wigtownshire
« on: Sunday 22 June 14 13:16 BST (UK) »
For nearly a year now we have made available an online searchable database for paternity cases in Sheriff Courts in the south of Scotland. The database also includes a few other aliment cases concerning desertion as well as some breach of promise to marry cases.

This is an ongoing project and our volunteer has now begun indexing cases from Wigtown Sheriff Court. Cases from 1831-1836 are already online and more will follow in the coming days.

You can search online for free and we give the following information for free in the results: Pursuer's Name (usually the mother), Occupation and Residence - Defender's Name (usually the father), Occupation and Residence -  Year Child Born, Case Year - Court

You can search online here: http://maxwellancestry.co.uk/census/default.htm

I hope this index proves to be of use to some of you.

The index has been updated again and now includes Wigtownshire cases from 1831 to 1845. More updates will appear soon.

We are able to do this with the help of a volunteer. We are working on another exciting project and are asking if anybody can spare any time to help index. Our aim is that by working together we can index some great resources and help people trace their family tree. If you want to volunteer contact me to find out more.

Just to keep you all up-to-date. Wigtown Sheriff Court paternity cases from 1830-1914 are now online. We have also launched our new website www.scottishindexes.com.
