Liston family Caherelly & Lisnagry
« on: Saturday 28 June 14 06:28 BST (UK) »
I am researching the family of Michael Liston and Catherine Bennett. They lived at Caherelly until about 1870s then moved to Lisnagry. They were married 14 Feb 1858 in Caherelly.  They had lots of children, my Grandmother Maria (Mary Ellen) was the youngest, born 1876. I have records of the births of most of the children but don't know how to find who the daughters married and when any of them died or migrated etc.
I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this family.

Thank you, Marie (from Australia)

Could you post more details (ie. names / DOBs) for the children?  Clearly this (below) is father Michael with twins John and Mortimer in 1901, FamilySearch has these twins born 1868, also twins James and Margaret in 1872, RootsIreland has a Catherine born 1870, are there any other children?

This info is from Rootsireland.

It may be that Martin and Mortimer are the same person.

I thought that maybe someone out there may be doing research into the Listons from Limerick Co. and have come across this family, or even be related.

Thanks to a friend in Chicago, I now have  lots of info on my grandfather's Fitzgibbon side of the family, so I'm turning my attention to the Listons.

Thanks for your quick reply
Marie

RootsIreland has a transcribed record for a civil marriage registered at Annacotty in 1916 for a Mortimer Liston (father Michael) and Mary Quinlish (father Thomas), might be a possibility.

Hello Gaffy
Thank you so much for the records you posted. I haven't been into Familysearch much for a while.
I obtained a copy of Mortimer's marriage from Rootsireland. It is the right one. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Marie

I have Listons and Lynches from Limerick- in Glin and Ardagh. Catherine Liston (b. 1869, daughter of John Liston and Mary McElligott) married Patrick Lynch. If this sounds like it might match your family I'd be happy to compare notes.

Hello Rachel

So far I have only been researching the actual family of my grandmother. They seem to be separate from the Listons in Glin but could be related further back. What I put in my post earlier is all I have found as yet.
My Catherine Liston was born !9 Aug 1870 in Caherelly, Parish/District of Caherconlish, to Michael Liston and Catherine Bennett and  married Philip Burns, 7 Feb 1892 at the R.C. church in Castleconnell. She was witness at the death of her mother in 1898 in Mountshannon.

Michael Liston was a herdsman or caretaker in Caherelly when he married in 1858.
If I come across any connection to the Listons in Glin I'll be pleased to let you know.

Marie

Hi Marie,
Based on the info in your posts - I believe there is a connection to my tree. I have a Michael Liston (1919-1986) that married a cousin of mine Margaret Mary O'Connell (1919-2007) in 1941 (St Josephs Church, Limerick, Ireland. They had four children that I know of. Michael's father was Mortimer and Margaret's parents were John O'Connell & Mary Naughton (my 2nd Great Aunt). Happy to provide info if you are interested.
Regards
Gerard.
