Peter Laing, cattle dealer  to Elizabeth Ann MacHattie , somewhere around Keith I think

There is a marriage for a Patrick Laing / Lizzie Ann MacHattie 1880 Keith , Banff(shire).

did people put different names on wed cert .

There is absolutely no connection between the names Peter and Patrick, but in Scotland they were often used interchangeably, especially in the 18th century.

Lizzie M. Laing, Wife, M. age 19 years, F. born New Elgin, Elgin,
William Laing, Son, age 5 months, M. born Keith, Bannf.

Peter's, parents and siblings are living in Keith, also in 1881.

Peter's, brother William, is married and also living in Keith, in 1881.

Peter, his father William,
 and brother William, are all Cattle Dealers.

If you go to  http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp  & enter in the headstone ref Ke (o)319 there's a whole family of them.
 Also try Ke(o)79 for Peters father.
