Emrys's mother's name was Mary Ann Phillips.  I found some census details for her and her parents before, so let me know if you'd like them.

This is from notes I made previously, looks OK.  In 1851 at Pontmaenpengam, Bedwellty:
William Phillips 46 collier b Breconshire Lanvallan
Catherine Phillips 42 b Glamorgan Cattwg
David Edmunds her son 20 collier b Monmouthshire Mynyddyslwyn
and all born Monmouthshire, Bedwellty, Henry Phillips 15 collier;  Gwenllian Phillips 12 dressmaker; Margaret Phillips 9 dressmaker; Anne Phillips 6 and Mary Ann Phillips 2.

Nothing convincing found yet for 1861.  In 1871 at Islawrcoed, Bedwellty:
William Phillips 60 coal miner b Llangafella Breconshire
Catherine Phillips 59 b Glynneath, Glamorgan
Margaret Phillips, 29 b Bedwellty, Monmouthshire
Mary Edmunds servant 11 b Bedwellty, Monmouthshire
David Phillips visitor 22 farmers son b Llanethey Breconshire
Hananiah Rees lodger 19 coal miner b Mynyddyslwyn Monmouthshire.
and next door to them the household found previously with John Morgan, wife Mary Ann, daughter Margaret Jane aged 1 and brother David Morgan aged 18!

And in 1881 at Trelyn, Bedwellty:
William Phillips 70 coal miner b Breconshire Llanelli
Catherine Phillips 69 b Glamorganshire Llangatwg
Margaret J Morgan grandaughter 11 b Monmouthshire Bedwellty
Gwen Morgan granddaughter 2 b Monmouthshire Bedwellty

John Morgan included a daughter Margaret Jane with the rest of the family when he paid the bond for their emigration but she didn't show up on passenger lists and there is a death of the right age in the right area just before they travelled.  Gwen is I think a daughter of brother Thomas Morgan who is in Gelligaer with John Morgan in 1881.

Hope this helps.  Happy to look for more, only I'm away for 10 days from the end of the week.
