PENNINGTON 1841 - John, Ann, James and Henry
« on: Wednesday 02 July 14 20:49 BST (UK) »
Can't seem to find where the family disappeared to in 1841.

They are there in 1851, and I can trace them thereafter.

John and Ann married in 1823, in Farnworth (Prestcot).

1851 - suggests place of birth is Rainford, but 1861 says Standish - although for Henry in latter census consistent with Rainford.

Just can't seem to trace the family in Lancashire and since most of subsequent census were all Standish area, I assume 1841 will be Standish but maybe a misspelling of the surname.

Any pointers to look at would be most welcome!

Where were they in 1851 and what birth years do you have for them? I have now looked at several John Penningtons and have not found a match yet with the information you gave. It will save time if you tell us more about what you already know.

If they married in 1823 - they presumably had children before James.  Do you have any details of the names/birthyears of those children which may help find an 1841 entry

Possible
John Pennington born 19th december 1825 - baptised 15th jan 1826 at Rainford Protestant Dissenters New Church - parents John and Ann

Thomas Pennington born 5th July 1824- bap 20th July 1824  - same church and parents

John Pennington b 29th May 1829 - bap 19th June 1829 - same church and parents
...
James Pennington b 1st jan 1832 - bap 19th feb 1832 - same church and parents

as James is baptised in the same church - it`s possible the above 3 children were siblings of James and Henry - children of John Pennington and Ann Heyes

it looks like the John b 1825 has passed away because they have another John in 1829
sadly it looks possible the John Pennington b 1829 dies aged 7 weeks old ?? is this him or another because it is Pinnington ?
Burial: 12 Mar 1830 All Saints, Rainford, Lancashire, England
John Pinnington -
    Age: 7 Weeks
    Abode: Rainford
so we know the family are in Rainford from 1824 - 1832
so . where is
John Pennington
Ann Pennington
Thomas Pennington aged 6 ....in 1841 census ??
and possibly John Pennington aged 11

Sorry, yes, should have said there seems to be some transcription issues.  Quite easy for the "e" and "i" to be mixed up, it crops up quite a lot.

So Wilfrid (GF) son of Thomas (Engine Brakesman) taken from marriage certificate. Led me to Thomas who I have traced via 1911, 1901, 1891, 1881 Census and his baptism from 1872 (LDS Film 1526140).  This indicated parents Henry and Jane - who I have traced to a marriage of Henry Pennington and Jane Dean (LDS Film 1526141 - transcribed as Pinnington).  This had John as the father an a pipe-maker - who I traced back to the 1823 record where John marries Ann Heyes.

Find John and Ann in 1851 and 1861 Census, they are on Engine Row. I find a James (b 1833) in 1871, which was a lucky find, living with the Simms where it seems Mary is his sister - although he is recorded as a lodger rather than brother-in-law.  However, same age as previous James, so coincidental or they are the same.  Guess we have to go with a "punt" on some of this data as we have no-one to ask.

Mary is another baptism record  I cannot find, however, copy of marriage certificate indicates father was John and he was also a pipe-maker in Standish.

Will be my luck we have two John's both pipe-makers both married to Ann  ::)
