Siblings of Richard Bray (1798-1872) Bodmin Town Clerk
« on: Monday 07 July 14 19:46 BST (UK) »
I am researching the siblings of the above-named, who was baptised 12 August 1798 at Bodmin, the son of John Bray and Elizabeth.

I have found the following baptisms on LDS:
John 1794
Elizabeth 1795
William 1801

I suspect there may be more siblings.  Does anyone have access to baptism records for the parish (I have not found anything on Cornwall OPC)?

Also, does anyone have details of the date of marriage of Richard's  parents and his mother's maiden name.

Jim

Sorry, re parents' marriage, should have added that I found on Cornwall OPC a marriage of John Bray and Elizabeth and Elizabeth Polkinghorne at Bodmin on 2nd Dec 1792.  However, I have no way of knowing if this is the right family.

Thanks for that link, I have had a look and satisfied myself that there are no more baptisms.

Unfortunately, the film that allegedly contains Baptisms, Burials and Marriages to 1812 does not seem to contain the marriages - unless I am doing something wrong!

try the file Marriage Banns, Marriages 1771-95. That seems to happen with some of the Familysearch files after 1754.

Thanks for that, I had not scanned far enough down the page!

I assume that all the records on these films should be on Familysearch and/or Cornwall OPC, so it is a case of trawling through them in case something has been missed?

Not everything that has been filmed has been transcribed by FamilySearch, and not all the films are on the site.

The opc database is a work in progress. You can check what has been transcribed here

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/coverage/coverage-by-parish

It's not a speedy task.

meant to say that it's always a good idea to check the original anyway as mistranscriptions can happen & there are entries that are difficult to read. I dismissed a baptism for one of mine because IGI had 'son of', when I later, checked the register, that had 'child of' & no first name given.

Yes, I was looking at the original baptism record for Richard's brother, William, correctly listed on Cornwall OPC 14/6/1801 and happened to notice that the record immediately above, baptised on the same day, was Rebecca Gatty, Richard's wife, which I had not been able to find on OPC.

Time to start going through the marriages and banns!

Thanks for your help, Osprey.
