What is Best way to search for family in Ennis, Clare?
« on: Wednesday 09 July 14 23:48 BST (UK) »
Looking for the Cotter family from Ennis, Clare.  What I know is there is a Stephen Cotter b. abt 1830 (its a guess), his son John born Ennis .. 1856. John moved to Wigan England married Catherine O'Brien.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

Thank you!
Bernadette

Two links from "Ireland Resources" that should be of help.

Have you got the marriage cert for John Cotter and Catherine O Brien?

What religious denomination are they?

There is a 70 year old Stephen Cotter in Clare in 1901. It's about the right age and his wife is still alive.
It's about 40km from Ennis though

He's still alive in 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Clare/Doonbeg/Carrowmore_North/360765/

Worth keeping a note of.

Sinann ....Thank you for that census find!  I think there is a possibility for that Stephen Cotter..  I am going to try and follow up on that one.
