Hi

Found a reference to the name SHOLTO ~ it has it's origins in Scotland, and is often used as a male/boys name.

Meaning " a sower of seed "  :)

The most famous Sholto ?

Marshal of the Royal Air Force William Sholto Douglas, 1st Baron Douglas of Kirtleside, GCB, MC, DFC was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force.

I am looking at the Cole family

George Montague Cole and Alfred Whaley Cole. George a Bank Manager and Alfred a Judge. Brothers both emigrated to South Africa from England. George's daughter Gertrude Wynne Cole Singer and Actress born South Africa and later in England (for second marriage)  and moved to British Guiana, then died in England.

I am linked into Gertrude Wynne Cole, daughter of George Montagu Cole (sometimes Montague). GMC is son of William Nicholas Cole. Both GMC and GMC's brother Alfred Whaley Cole were in South Africa. Gertrude Wynne Cole married Seymour Dallas in South Africa, divorced in South Africa.

GWC married again to Bernard Vidal Shaw in England, went to British Guiana with him and died in England.
GWC was a Singer and Actress.

The youngest child of the Cole/Whitbread marriage is Emily Whitbread Cole born Islington 22 August 1821 and baptized 10 January 1822 Islington. She married Thomas East Lomax 1844, Marylebone

There is a website "Tollis and Berger" that had quite a few references to the Cole family

There is a thread on here regarding James Montague Cole b 1812 Northamptonshire

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l83/

I find it interesting Montague Cole seems to be a name appellation through a few Cole families. I wonder of the link?
