Early Wesleyans in Dyffryn Aeron
« on: Wednesday 16 July 14 06:53 BST (UK) »
Does anybody know where any history/records of early Wesleyan activity might exist, in an area stretching from Aberaeron to Lampeter. One branch of my family seems to have been strong Wesleyans, associated with a farm somewhere in the area called 'Parc y Bedw' .

Hello Huwcyn,

Am currently researching a place called Parc y Bedw, not strictly in Dyffryn Aeron but in the upper regions of one of it's tributaries. It is near to Gartheli village in what was then Llanddewi Brefi parish. I have 2 surnames with possible links to this place-Davies and Griffith. I am not aware of any possible these might have with the Wesleyans.

Hope this helps,Dafydd

Diolch yn fawr iawn. I'm not quite sure what the exact connection with Parc Y Bedw is, but I think that the surnames were either Edwards or Williams. This must have been around the 1760s.

We could still be looking at the same place as in John Griffith's will of 1816 he bequeaths Park y Bedw to his Nephew Timothy Davies, however there is a tenant and his name is William Williams,Joiner.

I've also come across mention of another Park y Bedw in Ciliau Aeron, sorry don't have any more detail on this.
