Horwood didn't number Wentworth Street, but the numbering can be fixed using the excellent Topography of London by John Lockie 1813 ...

"Rose Lane at no.38 Wentworth St" ... this was the building on the east side of the junction as the shaded building to the left was a sugarhouse at no.37.
"Old Castle Street at no.121 Wentworth St".

... suggesting numbering north side W to E, then south side E to W.

Counting east from Rose Lane places the buildings either side of the "T" in the upper 40s, but more importantly places Philip Ritterspack 1812 at no.53 close to the corner of George St.

Ritterspack's Will is a little confusing but he owned number 53 and "five houses adjoining..with thirty seven beds, bedsteads and bedding" . It goes on to mention "the property in the public house situate in Wentworth Street.... called the Prince of Wales" which seems to be a separate asset.

In the 1841 census the northern side of Wentworth Street is enumerated from the Brick Lane end, starting at number 70 (HO107/710/10 folio 24 page 1).

Number 61 appears to be a pub ( John Buhler, victualler). (This is John Conrad Buhler: married Eliza Smith in 1837 and was at the same address then)

EDIT - that's not it - number 61 was the "City of Norwich"

Just checked the Land Tax records for Christchurch ....

Wentworth St, from Rose Lane east to George St 1812.
>Rose Lane
2 houses
court
2 houses
Coslett sugarhouse (rent 40) + 2 houses (rents 14, 12)
2 houses
empty
court
waste ground
Ritterspacke 3 houses (rents 12, 8, 8 ) + Hope court (rent 20)
2 houses
Ritterspake (rent 25)
>George St

Wentworth St, from Rose Lane east to George St 1788.

Similar

J Moody (rent 20)
>George St

Looks as though the property in question may have been on the west corner of Wentworth St and George St. The rent being greater than a dwelling house but less than a sugarhouse.

Hope-Court! That's one of the words I couldn't make out in Ritterspack's Will. I thought it had been crossed out.

"that house situate at No.53 Wentworth Street Christchurch Spitalfields and five houses in hopecourt adjoining..with thirty seven beds, bedsteads and bedding..."

So it looks like he owned the whole block between the waste ground and George Street.

Thanks everyone for your discoveries so far, looks like you've got a fair idea of where the pub was, it's just odd that it's not mentioned on the pub history sites, such as Pubology, Pub History etc.

William Moody died in 1794 and was buried on 19 October in Whitechapel (possibly St Mary's). I've looked for a will for him on Ancestry and TNA but nothing there.

Bookbox - I live and work in London, in fact I work a stone's throw away from Wentworth Street, so when I get a chance I'll have a look at the records you suggest at Tower Hamlets and LMA

Parker - Shoreditch, Finsbury, Islington, Ely
Manley - Shoreditch, Hackney
Moody - Hackney, Walthamstow
Lazzam - City of London, Shoreditch, Bethnal Green
Coburn - Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire
Tarrant - Cambridgeshire
Taylor- Essex, Cambridgeshire

I'd love to hear if you found out any more. My 5th ggrandfather had the pub in 1785. https://www.londonlives.org/browse.jsp?id=persName7fire_1785_1787_75_131805&div=fire_1785_1787_75_131805#highlight
