Hi ,

FreeCen transcription has it as DILLAY.
Household addresses before it are Bogondollo , and after Balnakettle.

An 1880's map has a Delalie(hard to read) near Bogendollo and Balnakettle.

ev

Yes I can see a Wood of Balnakettle right beside Thainston.  :)

Just having another look. I think I got the location of Delalie wrong. What I located as Delalie is actually Upper Thaneston. What is now Thainston on a modern map was called Nether Thaneston.

I will have a closer look for Delalie, but sadly I think it has gone.

I think Bogondollo is Bogs of Delalie. ;)

Good news is that I have found Delalie, and Mr Google has driven his truck all the way up the driveway to the farmhouse. You can just make it out behind the trees. The driveway to Delali runs in a NW direction parallel to the driveway up to Upper Thaneston but the Delalie drive is further to the east. An idyllic location.

Amazing what you learn. I didn't know Fettercairn came under Laurencekirk !!!

I need to do some Autoroute A to B journeys  ::)

My areas (which I have sources for) are Stonehaven & Market Square, Fetteresso so need to find Hogg/Morris in those areas.

I have a (possible) date of 1844 for my James' death in Gateshead, Durham which I am just about to order which will give only his father's name sadly  :(

295 000. I'll take it!

Yes, it could be the same place. House is largely hidden by trees on google maps, but I can make out a roofless barn or other dwelling which can also be seen in this ad.

Will try to send a link.

Hope this works:

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=56.8699917,-2.6050837&z=15&q=Fettercairn,+Laurencekirk,+Aberdeenshire+AB30&output=classic&dg=opt

And yes, it does look like the house for sale.  :) By the way, the location of the house which the estate agents have marked on the map is incorrect.

Delalie Fettercairn AB30 .Strutt and Parker are currently selling this property which is a traditional small farnhouse cottage of the type built in North EasrtScotland from 1850 onwards. There would most likely have been an older settlement here.

The National Library of Scotland maps website will give you free access to old maps of the area. If you look under "Series" maps you will find large scale 19th century Ordnance Survey ones. When you get to the old map, there is a slider which allows you to change it to and from a satellite image or modern map.
