Moran and Horan, Kilmovee
« on: Wednesday 30 July 14 10:54 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I noticed in the local graveyard a headstone of three young men, two were called Michael Moran and the other was a Patrick Horan.
They had been in an accident on a railway in 1925.
If anyone would like photos of the headstone and any information I can find, please let me know.
 Best Regards

Hello.
I believe my great-grandmother, Mary Moran (a/k/a Mrs. Michael Casey), born c.1851, was born in Kilmovee. She had a brother, Michael Moran, probably born in the mid-1800s. Not sure about Michael, but some of the siblings remained in Kilmovee, some (including Mary) settled in neighboring Ballaghaderreen. I would be curious to know birth/death dates for both of the Michael Morans (if you have them).
Thank you,
Patricia

Thank you for your offer to look up birth dates. If you prefer, just advising me of their ages would be a big help.

Just for information

The men were over in England for the potato harvest and returning from shopping one late evening they took a short cut across the railway line at Thorne and Crowle 14 Miles from Doncaster, they had let one light train pass but did not hear the train coming from the other direction and were killed instantly 2 others were injured.

The newspapers all say men came from Kilmovee Co Mayo  but no family information nor can I see any deaths mentioned in Irish papers in 1925.  The articles appear in several papers and the ages differ in each.
